What is the St Albans and District Local Strategic Partnership

St Albans & District Local Strategic Partnership is a group of key local public, business and voluntary/community sector organisations working together to improve the quality of life for everyone in the District.

Our purpose

Better Together Logo
To work together towards the achievement of the vision set out in the Sustainable Community Strategy - Shaping our District together for 2021.

The partnership’s task is to develop and implement the Sustainable Community Strategy for the District, ensuring delivery on the key priorities and identified areas of work, in order to achieve the shared vision.

Our objectives

  • to work in partnership to ensure local people receive the best possible services and to add value by working jointly (working smarter not harder)
  • to develop and implement a Community Strategy which reflects local needs and service priorities
  • to provide leadership for the community
  • to identify gaps in the existing and planned work of partners, partnerships and networks in working towards addressing local needs
  • to ensure delivery plans are in place with specific actions and targets
  • to rationalise existing plans, partnerships and networks where appropriate
  • to review achievements and revisit targets within the Strategy on a regular basis
  • to identify new and pool existing resources, and ensure resources at the Partnership’s disposal are used effectively
  • to support bids to fund projects which work towards the priorities as stated in the Community Strategy for the district
  • to act as an inclusive body, sensitive to the different needs of a range of interest groups
  • to consult with and engage citizens, residents and community representatives creatively and inclusively
  • to work with existing partnerships, networks and consultative forums in a way which adds value
  • to reduce inequalities, creating a fully inclusive society
  • to work with regard to other partnerships, strategies and targets affecting the local area

Our approach

Much of the work to deliver the vision and priorities set out in the Sustainable Community Strategy is already underway through the plans, activities and targets of individual organisations or existing partnerships who work in the District.  In these areas, the LSP will take an overview and will monitor and promote progress.

For some other areas of work required to achieve the vision, we have identified specific gaps where we believe more targeted and coordinated action is required. These are set out in the section titled ‘Targeting the gaps’ in the strategy document. It is in these areas where the LSP will take a more direct role in identifying the practical steps, measures and responsibilities needed to deliver real change.

Making the Vision a reaility

The Constitution of the LSP, which contains the rules by which it works, is reviewed every two years, and is currently being reviewed for publication in the first quarter of 2010.
